The Poorhouse is a new Café & Bar located on Great Ayton High Street. The building itself dates back to 1786, and is the original Poorhouse of the Village, making it one of the oldest buildings in Great Ayton.
What’s Going On?
Fast-forward to the present day and they have reinvented and refurbished the historic building, while still managing to keep its original features, which has resulted in a warm and cosy atmosphere, full of character.
The Poorhouse has created a small but carefully thought out menu which consists of homecooked food and bakes, along with evening platters and an outdoor wood burning pizza oven in their enclosed patio area.
Our favourite part about The Poorhouse has to be Cookie the Cat. She was born in a coal bunker and is jet black. If you’re lucky enough she might just choose to sit on your knee while visiting.
